Men’s Ministry - Reaching Fathers

This fall, TWC is launching a new Fatherhood Ministry to meet the needs of men facing unexpected pregnancies. The program is made possible through a grant from CareNet & the National Fatherhood Initiative.

Did you know that 1 out of 3 children in America live apart from their biological fathers and within the African American community nearly 2 out of 3 children live in father-absent homes? Children who live absent their biological fathers are, on average, at least two to three times more likely to be poor, to use drugs, to experience educational, health, emotional and behavioral problems, to be victims of child abuse, and to engage in criminal behavior than their peers who live with their married, biological (or adoptive) parents.

The Women’s Clinic is ready to help change the tide in our community. Our fatherhood program will engage men from day one by encouraging men to become active fathers from the first positive pregnancy test, to attending the ultrasound, to receiving ongoing peer coaching and mentoring in fatherhood classes and workshops. Using NFI’s Doctor Dad, 24/7 Dad, & Why Knot? curriculum we’ll help men be prepared for their new roles as dads and encourage them to build strong families and healthy relationships.

We are currently looking for the right man to lead this ministry as the Fatherhood Ministry Director and for male volunteers to help minister to dads-to-be. Please read the job-description for the Fatherhood Ministry Director for more information.

Monday, March 15 from 5-8 p.m. Burger King is hosting benefit nights at all Greater Columbus locations to benefit The Women’s Clinic. A percentage of designated sales will be donated to TWC.

In order for a donation to count, you must:

Visit a Greater Columbus location in Canal Winchester, Columbus, Dublin, Gahanna, Hilliard, Lancaster, Lewis Center, Pickerington & Reynoldsburg
ORDER INSIDE - you can eat-in or take-out, but you have to order inside the restaurant for TWC to receive a percentage of the sale. Drive thru orders will not count!
TELL THE CASHIER YOU ARE SUPPORTING THE WOMEN’S CLINIC when you order. Only designated sales count toward TWC’s total.

Candy Messages of Love

February is a month full of promise. It’s a fresh start to the year when anything seems possible and love is in the air.

I can’t help but smile remembering the boxes of candy hearts that I gave and received in my childhood. Each year it was the same, I’d search through the box looking for the perfect message, my favorite was the heart that said, “Be Mine.”

It makes me wonder what our messages would read if The Women’s Clinic were to give a box of candy hearts. Ours would be imprinted, “Love Lives Here,” “Healing Inside,” “All Welcome,” “Hope.” I could make a list as long as my arm of what we would write on hearts to give our clients, but at the core our message is love.

The love of God compels us, nudging us to share light in the darkness and to reach out to women with truth. We bring a message to the hurting that there is healing available and that there is hope in the midst of what seems unbearable.

While our logo may be green, and if you’ve been inside the clinic, you know the walls are a soothing mint, our hearts beat red with passion and love for the unborn and hurting women and men alike.

This month, as you share your candy hearts with your children, friends and colleagues, why not share real hope - the message of love of The Women’s Clinic of Columbus. Your words could save a life.

Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby Classes

Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby classes start Wednesday, Jan. 20 at the clinic. We’re partnering with OSU’s Expanded Food & Nutrition Education Program to teach moms nutrition for pregnancy and beyond. Fresh fruits & vegggies plus demonstrations for pregnant women. Classes are six weeks from 10:00am-11:30am - if you know someone who may be interested in this class, call us at 614-237-2000.

A Change of Heart

A Change of Heart: the director of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Texas recently resigned when she had a “change of heart” after watching an ultrasound image of an abortion. She had been under pressure from the organization to increase revenue through increasing the number of abortions performed - but that ultrasound …changed everything!
