A moment can change a lifetime.  We see that firsthand when we minister to our clients.  One client, Kristin* shared with us the moment that changed her life - the time her peer coach took to pray with her.  A moment really can change everything:

Kristin came to the clinic an emotional wreck.  She came to the front desk, asking for a pregnancy test and then she said, “can I get an abortion today?”  Our staff told her, we don’t perform abortions, but you’ve come to the right place to discuss your options.

Kristin sat down on the couch in the coaching room and starting sobbing. She opened up about how overwhelmed she felt.  She was working at a minimum wage job, being a full time parent to two young kids and dealing with a boyfriend with mental health problems - a baby wasn’t part of her plan.  Kristin admitted that she was a Christian and that her faith was the only thing stopping her from getting an abortion.  Her peer coach told her it was no accident that she came to our clinic and shared fetal development with her and what the Bible says about life.  She was shocked that her baby was developing already, she had believed that she carried nothing more than a sac of tissue.  At the end of their session, her peer coach asked if she could pray with her.  Kristin started sobbing again and said she’d really like that.  Together they prayed for direction and peace, for divine provision in all areas of her life and for God to be everything she needs.  Her peer coach made the commitment to pray for her daily and said she’d see her when she came back for her ultrasound appointment.

Kristin came back for her ultrasound.  The nurse manager asked her if she’d made a decision yet and she started to cry.  She said she was going to continue her pregnancy.  The moment that changed her mind was when her peer coach prayed with her - she’d been raised a Christian but that prayer was the first time someone had asked to pray with her; it put her on the right path and she said she was praying daily and had faith that she would be able to handle another child.  Kristin spoke with her family and found that they were supportive of her as well.  That day Kristin saw her baby’s picture on the ultrasound screen and knew that she made the right decision.

Taking a moment to pray saved a baby’s life and forever changed a mother’s life.  Kristin is just one story out of the hundreds like hers that happen monthly at The Women’s Clinic.  Your support makes moments like these possible and we need your help to ensure that the clinic is here to help young women like Kristin.  join us for the “Live, Laugh, Love” Silent Auction & Comedy Show on Thursday, Sept. 9 featuring comedian Kenn Kington and special guest, God’s Girl Dawn from Joy 106.3.  More information available here.

This fall, TWC is launching a new Fatherhood Ministry to meet the needs of men facing unexpected pregnancies. The program is made possible through a grant from CareNet & the National Fatherhood Initiative.

Did you know that 1 out of 3 children in America live apart from their biological fathers and within the African American community nearly 2 out of 3 children live in father-absent homes?  Children who live absent their biological fathers are, on average, at least two to three times more likely to be poor, to use drugs, to experience educational, health, emotional and behavioral problems, to be victims of child abuse, and to engage in criminal behavior than their peers who live with their married, biological (or adoptive) parents.

The Women’s Clinic is ready to help change the tide in our community.  Our fatherhood program will engage men from day one by encouraging men to become active fathers from the first positive pregnancy test, to attending the ultrasound, to receiving ongoing peer coaching and mentoring in fatherhood classes and workshops.  Using NFI’s  Doctor Dad, 24/7 Dad, & Why Knot? curriculum we’ll help men be prepared for their new roles as dads and encourage them to build strong families and healthy relationships.

We are currently looking for the right man to lead this ministry as the Fatherhood Ministry Director and for male volunteers to help minister to dads-to-be.  Please read the job-description for the Fatherhood Ministry Director for more information.

All applicants can submit resumes to megan.hassett@columbustwc.com or call (614) 237-2000 with questions.

Join us for the second annual Benefit Banquet for an inspirational evening featuring clients who made decisions for life and the precious babies who were given the best gift of all, the gift of life!
